Hand Tool Woodworking | Faux Dovetail Spline

This frame was built almost entirely with hand tools, using hand saws and planes to mill the walnut, a plow plane for the groove for the glass and the rabbet for the back panel, a custom 45 degree shooting board for the mitered joints, and a hand saw to cut the dovetail angled splines. The splines are poplar and are planed to thickness by hand, as the width must be precise to within a few thousands of an inch to get a good glue joint. The front is glass 3/32" thick, the back is plexiglass. The back panel is held on by screws so it can be removed and the inside of t...

Heirloom Flag Display Case | Quiet Woodworking
Просмотров 11 тыс.Год назад
My grandfather used to say "a job worth doing is a job worth doing well", so I decided to put in the effort to build a finely crafted display case for his service flag. He was in the US Navy. I designed this case myself and built it out of black walnut. In this video I build the display case and I add descriptive comments and thought processes as subtitles, if you are interested in the details....
Don't buy a router plane! Build one instead.
Просмотров 87 тыс.Год назад
Router planes are one of the most useful and important specialty planes for any hand tool woodworker. Unfortunately antique planes can be rare and modern planes can be really expensive. Fortunately router planes are one of the easiest planes to make yourself and end up with something very precise... especially when you buy the parts from @Paul.Sellers ! In this video I build the Paul Sellers ro...
Avoid this beginner mistake with saw blades
Просмотров 244 тыс.Год назад
A common fix for burn marks on circular saw cuts is to try to sharpen the blade. AVOID THIS TEMPTATION! You'll either waste time, money, or a perfectly good blade. Watch this video to see how to save all three of those things by fixing your blade for free in under five minutes. Burn marks can happen with a number of power tools including circular saws, miter saws, and table saws. There are lots...
You haven't seen a hatchet handle like this (no power tools)
Просмотров 45 тыс.Год назад
I recently snapped the handle on my hatchet so I decided to make an even better handle to replace it. I built this handle out of laminated layers of poplar, cherry, and walnut. These aren't usually the best woods for hatchet and axe handles (like hickory or ash) but the lamination process makes them stronger. I carved this handle entirely with hand tools, no electrons were harmed in the making ...
DIY Closet Organization on a Budget | Repurposing Lumber
Просмотров 17 тыс.Год назад
I literally paid $7.88 for materials to DIY renovate this closet. Almost. By using the old closet doors for plywood construction material I was able to build customizable shelving and a removable shoe rack basically for free. The shelving and shoe rack are made with rabbet and dado joinery, which is both technically simple to do, and is extremely strong. I ended up purchasing some iron on edge ...

Impossible Vanishing Sliding Bolt Trick
Thank you for the excellent video. As it so happens I had a Cedar piece of lumber very similar to what you have in the video. So I decided to make a birdhouse out of it using your instructions. After it is all done, I think it turned out pretty good considering it was my first one. I did use a combination of glue and nails for this birdhouse. Thought maybe I could sell some of these and wonder if you have any ideas on what platform to use. Thanks again.
That looks awesome! Would bring me happiness just to see it on the wall.
Thanks for the hot tip on blade cleaning..!😀
Brilliant tip. It worked on my blade. Thanks
Great video. I use shellac and denatured alcohol method on boxes I make. It’s very natural looking on wood. Thanks
When you were creating the curve part, what was the method called when you made the wood bend? Is that an actual method you got taught or learnt. Or did you create it yourself cause I'd love to learn how to use that when I start doing woodworking
Beats Krud Kutter (cost wise)
Love the fists of woodworking fury and really great recovery. Might even be easier to make with a tube as a string/wire bearing.
I realize I'm a bit late but awesome table! Love it!
Oh god! I thought I was the only one to spot that! Zelensky!!! Nice table
Can we all agree that this guy is awesome...
Thank You So Much
I was wondering do you have a video explaining what all your tools are for. For example the one you roll by hand to score a line on the wood. Why do you use that tool?
If the width of my wood is 144mm, are the measurements you have given the same. Kind Regards Kevin Tompkins Camberley UK
very creative work, thank you for sharing this video
Thank you for the kind words and for watching!
How do you get it out of that small basement?
It fits through a standard doorway if you turn it sideways. I did remove the top just to make it easier to carry in two pieces though.
Just fished the Diablo blade out of the trash and cleaned it. Will see how it cuts tomorrow. Don't want to disturb the neighbors at midnight.
Awesome! Hope i saved you some money!
Was that a nail used as a hinge??
😇 sure was! Still works great.
Nice😁😁😁
Thanks!! 🙏🏻
This is the kind of instruction I have always wanted and needed💕
Thank you so much! I’m glad it was useful for you!
¿Y las medidas?
No las tengo 😢
I don't want to build PCs anymore
Woodworking is much more fun! But you can’t mine crypto with a walnut table lol 😂
Love the name DKBaby! The crib is great!
Thanks!! 😍
Wow I love your dowel making method. The pencil sharpener is genius!
Thanks!! I’m glad to have shown you something new!
😂
🤣
Love the use of simple but elegant designs and the mix of power and hand tools! Give an Andy Rawls feel to the video and workmanship! Subbed!
Thanks so much Greg! I'll have to check out Andy's channel, thanks for sharing!
Perches are for Predators.
Good tip thanks for sharing Bill
I just finished glueing up the 6th panel of a cherry blanket box today . I really wish I had watched this first for the saw dust cleaning up the glue tip 😆, fack.
Lol! How'd your blanket box turn out?
@@dkbuilds had to put it on hold, to head back to work for a month on the water. Brand new to the whole process so what I thought was all square was basically a trapezoid. I was happy to learn this after only doing one set of box joints, but just ran out of time. Very happy with how the box joints are gonna turn out, I took a kids glue stick and glued 1/8 inch plywood to the back to prevent the dado from chipping the cherry all to hell and the glue stick doesn’t ruin the wood or leave a mess once you pry the plywood off.
No polyurethane?
I believe on this shelf I used just lacquer. If I were to rebuild it today I would use poly.
Thanks dude for the simple and starter project to get kids drive into wood work. Highly appreciated. ❤
Awesome! That’s just what I was hoping for this video. I appreciate you!
What kind of finish do you use with that spray can? Looks very nice👌
Spray on lacquer (satin). It’s my favorite finish when you need something to dry fast and it doesn’t have to be SUPER durable. Highly recommend it!
@@dkbuilds okay thank you very much. I really like watching your vids
Great video! Do you sell these backgammon boards ?
Thanks! Unfortunately I only made this one ☹️
@@dkbuilds well it’s a very nice one great piece of art, keep it up 👍:)
Looks like you got your inspiration from Jason at Epic Recycling ..
I've never heard of that channel actually, but it looks really impressive. Thanks for sharing!
You could use a spade bit for the hole 🕳👍
That’s a great tip Carl, thanks for the idea!
the glue up "happened" so fast that I had to rewind the video.. twice! Nice boxes though
:D Thanks!
Nice work, great video.
Thanks!
very nice work paul would be proud of you
Thanks so much! He’s a big inspiration for me!
I love it, but the flame/heat wood thing. A little scary. Maybe a small glass enclosed candle or a battery op flickering fake candle.
Great idea with a flickering fake candle. Thanks for sharing!
Very Impressive box and design ideas.
Thanks so much Ray! Design credit definitely goes to Rob Cosman on this one!
진정한 목수를 보는 듯 .. 대단 합니다...
A level as a saw guide. Harbor freight clamps. And ryobi circular saw. This is the lack of pretension I like to see.
:D Thanks James! Why buy an expensive tool when a cheap one works just as well. Thanks for watching!
Amazing tutorial!!!
Thanks!
What is the name of the drill you use to make centerholes into the hinge? Thanks
I'm not sure it has a name, but I bought mine from Rob Cosman's shop online.
You are a master craftsman
Thanks Craigg! I'm not sure I would go that far, but I always aspire to get better!
I think consoles are beautiful, it's stupid to hide them. And every 6 years everything has to be remake - because there will be other, newer consoles. 😆
😆
👍 I'm a fan of game discs, I don't like digital copies. Inserting a disc into such a system can be very difficult. 😄😄😄
Why don't you use salt when gluing the lid? Then the bottom lid won't slip!
That's a great tip! I haven't actually tried it myself but have heard from several people that it works great. Thanks for sharing!
Hello, thanks for your labor. What is type of wood?
Thank you! This is black walnut wood.
Such a beautiful build and enjoyable video. Bravo! 👏
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad you liked it!
Thanks.. I'm going to build our birds 🏠 because I hate homeless 🐦 🐦⬛ 🦃 🦉
Awesome! Let me know how your project turns out!
😂me too haha .. & must feed the birds and squirls!
Are you set up in a basement?? :o
Yup! My workshop is in my basement
